Interesting article, although let's not forget the hedonic treadmill! Having a certain level of technology will be cool at first, then we'll take it for granted.

These comparisons are entirely misleading. In the 1950s, refrigerators were new technology. Now it’s a commodity. Safety pins, on the other hand, have always been a commodity. Not even close to an apples-to-apples comparison.
