In a few weeks, I have an article along these lines coming out. Essentially, Malthusian thinking is that we must reduce our population to ensure that we do not over-consume resources. History has shown the that this is not true, so long as we are growing our knowledge, we need not snap our proverbial fingers and reduce half the population to dust.

We do "snap" our fingers, but instead of dematerializing ourselves, we dematerialize what we consume. We find ways or doing more with less, that is the power of knowlege and progress.

Agreed. If Thanos had understood that atoms become resources when we add knowledge to them, and there are no limits on new knowledge discovery by human beings, he would have used his powers to create more life, not destroy it.
